2.5 to 2.9

Although it'll probably have to drop as I'm getting 5 minute disconenctions now, got a maximum of 35minutes in one go.

Maybe our house lines are shit, maybe telstras lines are shit, maybe we're just too far along the cable. We can't find out till optus tell internode that they've provisioned the line

Its because you are Perth from the exchange imho.

You could probably talk to Kupp and find out what it would cost to run a new line from the pit that you come in from...

Then again, from memory Telstra would be displeased about that if they ever found out.

It cost me ~$300 to get Telstra to do it at our place in Murrumbeena - but they only did it because;

a) they literally couldn't find the copper pair that went into the house
b) the previous tenants had foxtel/telstra cable, which had a trench dug in the front lawn - and he ran it down there because he was a reasonable guy.

Bugger, our conversation about the difficulties of troubleshooting ADSL issues was timely :S

Tell telstra to investigate your phone line, its almost undoubtibly a line fault... and most likely outside of your house...

I cant replace the incomming line, its part of telstras network and i am not legaly able to work on it.. Without copping a large foot up my ass

well I switched from the connection in the front of the house to the connection at the top of the stairs down the back and now internet is solid as a rock.

The attenuation is still quite high, but that could just be because we're about 3k from the exchange as the cable snakes. I'll get em to investigate it, but for the moment stable internet is here and that's what I was really aiming for.

Sounds like central splitter + internal wiring check might be the way to go. Since the previous owner was ye olde, the place has probably never had ADSL and the wiring may still be configured in a way that is suitable for voice calls but increases line attenuation.

If you've got a stable(ish) connection, have fun convincing Telstra to check the line between your house and the exchange :)
